The Philadelphia Flyers and general manager Chuck Fletcher have a big hole to fill on their defense and it hasn't been easy so far.
Alex Pietrangelo looks destined to sign with the Vegas Golden Knights and TJ Brodie chose the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Flyers.
That doesn't leave Fletcher with many options.
According to Flyers' insider Bill Meltzer, Zdeno Chara might be the only option left.
The Bruins are staying in the mix but have left their long time dman and captain test the free agent market.
Meltzer points out while Chara would be a good option, he's 43 years old and would only be a bandaid.
Would you like Chara in a Flyers' uniform?
Vegas' Alec Martinez has only one year left on his contract and the Flyers could afford his cap hit with no cap shedding. However, he typically plays left D and Flyers are looking for a RD to plug into Niskanen spot. UFA Zdeno Chara is an icon but is also 43 y/o.
