Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall will be like a kid in a candy store this summer as he has a boatload of salary cap space.
However he might be looking forward to the guys who's contracts are up in the summer of 2019 and one of those is defenseman Ivan Provorov.
The 21 year old Russian defenseman is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1st and it's something Hextall should consider doing before the price tag gets too high.
Provorov definitely proved himself in the playoffs, playing through injury and racked up 27:30 minutes of ice time in Game 2 against the Pittsburgh Penguins and 30:07 minutes in Game 5.
With Hextall having signed Shayne Gostisbehere through 2022-23, Provorov should be right behind him and would solidify the two staple of the Flyers blueline moving forward.
As Tom Dougherty of NBC Sports Philly points out, doing it this summer instead of next summer will give Hextall a bigger chance of landing Provorov on a team friendly deal.
Would you like to see Provorov extended this summer?
