After playing 17 of their first 21 games of the season against Western Conference opponents, the Philadelphia Flyers will finally face a division rival.  Tonight’s contest at the New York Islanders is just the second Metropolitan Division game of the season and the first since the home opener versus the Washington Capitals.

We wondered after last night’s ugly loss to the Vancouver Canucks if general manager Ron Hextall would look to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for some reinforcements.  That is exactly what happened this morning when he recalled forward Danick Martel and defenseman Samuel Morin.  Both are expected to be in the lineup tonight.

Morin will be able to fill the void in physicality with Radko Gudas out for the next eight games.  Martel not only brings speed to the lineup, but he will hopefully be the boost the Flyers secondary scoring desperately needs right now.  He currently leads the American Hockey League with 14 goals in 17 games.

The Islanders have enjoyed quite a bit of success at their weird, not made for hockey arena as they have yet to lose in regulation at the Barclays Center.  The boast a 6-0-2 record on home ice, while going 5-7-0 on the road.

New York currently have the second best offense in the NHL at 3.60 goals per game.  They have needed every bit of that offense as they are 24th in defense, allowing 3.25 goals per game.

The Flyers penalty kill has been a mess of late.  After giving up five power play goals in the last two games, their penalty kill unit has dropped to 28th in the NHL.  The Islanders have scored on 20.3% of their power plays, good for 12th in the league so playing disciplined hockey will be a key to success.
