The Thanksgiving holiday in the United States is a good measuring stick on whether or not your team makes the Stanley Cup playoffs.  In the last 10 82-game seasons, 76% of the teams who were in playoff spots at Thanksgiving participated in the postseason that year.  The Flyers are currently three points out of the final Eastern Conference wild card spot.

The Flyers have lost four straight games since beating the Chicago Blackhawks two weeks ago.  They have scored just six goals during the losing streak, with four of those coming against the Calgary Flames on Saturday.  If it wasn’t for earning loser points against the Winnipeg Jets and Flames they would be even further down in the standings.

Jordan Weal will be back in the lineup after sitting out the last game.  He will be on the new second line with Nolan Patrick and Wayne Simmonds.  Jori Lehtera will remain in on the fourth line, meaning Dale Weise will watch tonight’s game from the press box.

On the back end, Mark Alt will take Radko Gudas’ spot as he serves his 10-game suspension.  Alt will fill in until Andrew MacDonald is ready to return from his lower-body injury.

Michal Neuvirth will start in goal tonight, meaning we will see Brian Elliott versus the New York Islanders tomorrow night.

The Canucks started the year in a very weird place as they say they are trying to rebuild yet have players like Thomas Vanek, Sam Gagner, Loui Eriksson and the Sedin twins taking up a lot of salary cap space.  Vancouver is off to surprising start thanks to some of their younger players like Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat leading the way offensively.  They currently find themselves just one point out of the last wild card spot in the Western Conference.

We will also get to see former Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto in his first game back at the Wells Fargo Center after three seasons in Philadelphia.  Del Zotto has a goal, seven points, a -10 goal differential and a 45.4 CF% in his first 20 games with Vancouver.
