With the news of defenseman, Radko Gudas' suspension for 10 games to start the week, the Philadelphia Flyers decided to waive Matt Read on Monday morning.
The move wasn't to initiate a contract buy out, but rather to create some space incase they need to call up a defenseman.
While Read hasn't exactly been the Matt Read who scored 20 goals in a season, some would still argue he's been playing better than Dale Weise or Jori Lehtera, so there was a chance he could be claimed.
Luckily for Read, he found on Tuesday morning that he had cleared waivers and report to Lehigh Valley where he's already played five games this year, able to put up one goal on the stat sheet.
Read has scored 20 goals twice in his career for the Flyers, but the last time that happened was 2013-14.
Despite the roster move, Read was still in Voorhees on Tuesday morning as it looks like he'll stick around until the Flyers are sure they're ready to activate defenseman Andrew MacDonald.
