If you stayed up late last night you saw the Flyers pick up a nice road win at the San Jose Sharks.  Wayne Simmonds scored his second career hat trick while the Flyers went 3 for 5 on the power play.

They will look to spoil a second straight home opener as they have traveled south to take on the Los Angeles Kings tonight.  The Flyers did fairly well last season in the second half of back-to-back games going 9-6-3 when playing for the second straight night.

Dave Hakstol did not hold a morning skate today and we shouldn’t expect any changes to his lineup outside of his goal crease.  Michal Neuvirth is expected to make his season debut in net tonight after backing up Brian Elliott last night.  Neuvirth is 1-2-1 with a 1.85 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage in five career games versus the Kings.

The Kings are starting a new era tonight as general manager Dean Lombardi and head coach Darryl Sutter, the architects of two Stanley Cups in three years, were both led go last season and replaced by Rob Blake and John Stevens respectively.  Lombardi is now an assistant general manager for the Flyers and Stevens’ only previous NHL head coaching job was in Philadelphia.

While their current lineup contains quite a few new names, the Flyers still need to worry about “That 70’s Line” with Tanner Pearson, Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli.  Carter picked up right where he left off last season with two goals and two assists in four preseason games.

Forward Oscar Fantenberg and defensemen Alex Iafallo and Kurtis MacDermid are all expected to make their NHL debuts for the Kings tonight.

Goaltender Jonathan Quick has been tough on the Flyers going 6-3-1 with a 1.79 GAA, a .938 save % and a shutout in 11 career games against them.
