The Philadelphia Flyers open their season tonight on the west coast with a visit to San Jose to face the Sharks.

While the team announced their official 23 man roster yesterday, the team still had some news to announce on Wednesday as they named their alternate captains.

The Flyers noted that the choices are based on a player vote.

Forward Valtteri Filppula and defenseman Andrew MacDonald will alternate the "A" as Filppula will wear it for home games, while MacDonald will wear the "A" for road games.

Wayne Simmonds keeps his "A" and will wear it on a full time basis.

Filppula is entering his 13th season in the NHL and has accumalated 157 goals and 273 assists in 795 games. Filppula also hoisted the Stanley Cup in 2008 with the Detroit Red Wings and has been a pretty good playoff performer with 79 points in 152 games.

MacDonald has been a bit of controversial player for Flyer fans, however he continues to do his job, ranking second on the team in blocked shots last year with 151 and enters his fifth season with the Flyers.

What do you think of the players choices?
