Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere turns 24 today and we are sure that his birthday wish is that the Flyers were still playing hockey instead of watching from home.
Gostisbehere made an immediate impact when he was recalled in November of 2015. He was one the biggest reasons that the Flyers qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs as the team started to turn things around shortly after his arrival last season.
Gostisbehere finished third in Calder Trophy voting behind Artiemi Panarin of the Chicago Blackhawks and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers after scoring 17 goals and 46 points in 64 games.
His sophomore season was a bit of a struggle at times. Although he set a new career high with 32 assists he scored 10 fewer goals. He went from a +8 goal differential in his rookie season to a -21 this past year, but his Corsi For percentage went up from 50.6 to 53.7. He was even a healthy scratch multiple times during the season as head coach Dave Hakstol tried to “send a message.”
All of us at Let’s Go Flyers wish the Ghost Bear a very happy 24th birthday and look forward to bigger and better things in the future!
