Allentown has become quite the hockey town since they became the home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in 2014.  Fans have flocked to the PPL Center to watch the Phantoms and they are one point away from being rewarded with their first taste of the Calder Cup playoffs.

The American Hockey League playoffs may not be the only hockey tournament to be hosted by the PPL Center in the near future

Brad E. Schlossman, who covers the University of North Dakota and NCAA hockey  for the Grand Fork Herald, reported this afternoon that Allentown has put in a bid to host an NCAA regional semi-final and final, possibly as soon as 2018.

One potential new NCAA regional destination: Allentown, Pa. Beautiful new 8,400-seat arena there. Word is they put in a bid.

Allentown would make a great host city has they have the capacity and facilities to host a fair sized crowd.  Plus, location wise, it is within driving distance of plenty of east coast hockey power houses that could potentially make the national regionals.
