Should The Flyers Inquire About Darryl Sutter?

April 11, 2017

There has not been a lot of chatter about Dave Hakstol’s job being in jeopardy despite a good portion of the fan base hoping for a change behind the bench. Could Ron Hextall’s mind have been changed with the firing of Darryl Sutter on Monday?

Sutter has the experience and the winning track record that the Flyers could use. He has won 634 games and has a .565 points percentage in 17 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings.

Sutter had led four different teams to 100-plus point seasons. He made his first Stanley Cup Final with the Flames in 2004 before winning two championships with the Kings in 2012 and 2014.

Hextall was vice president and assistant general manager of the Kings when they hired Sutter midway through the championship season of 2011-12 after he had been out of the game since 2006.

Whether or not Dave Hakstol deserves to be fired is not relevant here, but rather if Hextall and the Flyers are willing to cut ties with him to hire a proven winner.

Would you bring in Darryl Sutter?
